Energy Independent VT teams up with POW for Earth Day action

Organizers from Energy Independent Vermont teamed up with representatives from Protect Our Winters (POW) to send more than a hundred combined postcards and phone calls to Gov. Peter Shumlin’s office asking him to support a price on carbon pollution.

The action took place as part of the Burlington Earth Day celebration at the Burton Snowboards headquarters yesterday afternoon. The event was presented by Burton, along with Energy Independent Vermont business endorsers Ben & Jerry’s and Seventh Generation.

Hundreds came out celebrate Burlington’s commitment to renewable energy and take further climate action.

The event also included a screening of the documentary Momenta – which uses the story of proposed coal exports in the Pacific Northwest to encourage people to rethink fossil fuels, their impact on climate and environment, and accelerate the clean energy revolution.

Outside the Burton headquarters, EIV and POW set up a table where attendees could sign postcards to the governor and make phone calls to his office. Action takers were entered into a raffle to take home Burton gear.
